On Monday, one of Hilaree Nelson’s sponsors, the clothing firm The North Face, tweeted: “We are in touch with Hilaree’s family and assisting search and rescue operations in any way we can.”

According to The North Face, Hilaree Nelson is a mother of two children, and her spouse, Jim Morrison, is also an accomplished ski mountaineer. When it was discovered that she was gone, she and Morrison were in the middle of skiing and touring a mountain in Nepal.

According to what Ghimire told Outside magazine, “I got a call from our employees at Base Camp that her ski blade skidded off and [she] plunged down the other side of the mountain.”

The previous week, Hilaree Nelson posted some images from the trip along with an Instagram post in which he discussed the difficulties of the journey.

“I haven’t felt as sure-footed on Manaslu as I have on past adventure into the thin atmosphere of the high Himalaya,” she wrote, referring to the poor weather that has plagued climbers in recent days. “I haven’t felt as sure-footed on Manaslu as I have on past adventure into the thin atmosphere of the high Himalaya.”

“My resiliency has been put to a variety of fresh tests throughout the course of these last weeks.”

In the world of climbing, Hilaree Nelson is considered a trailblazer and serves as an inspiration to climbers of today and tomorrow.

She has participated in over 40 excursions all around the world and was appointed captain of The North Face Athlete Team in 2018. Her accomplishments include making first descents.

She has continued to explore the mountains of the world, most of the time in partnership with Morrison, and has pushed the boundaries of what is considered acceptable in the sport.
